WHAT IS MEDIATION?

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Mediation is a process where disputes are resolved with the help of a neutral third party.  This person will not favor or assist any side, but rather use their skills to provide a context for moving towards resolution.

It works really well!

  • The majority of mediated conflicts result in negotiated solutions that are satisfactory to all the disputants.
  • Approximately 85 percent of the mediations end in agreements (Statistics from mediation centers show).

Mediation can also help preserve relationships between parties who will still have to deal with each other after the conflict is resolved.

How does it help?

Mediators guide each party or disputants to:

1) Identify, clarify, and communicate the issues and interests in the dispute.
2) Effectively negotiate with each other
3) Structure a settlement that is fair and workable from their perspectives.
